this is one of my favorite things to think about. derrida worked against the western tradition of metaphysics of presence in which what is present is privileged over what is absent. he argued that the condition for presence is the possibility of absence, meaning that in order for something to be first it has to be possible for it not to be. destruction, then, IS creation and creation is destruction.
"is" is such an intensely problematic word. a form of "to be," we are bound to it in order to articulate that which is not being.
